Mechanical & Engineering Workshop Manager

5* Game Lodge –  situated at the confluence of the great Limpopo and Shashe Rivers in the remote eastern corner of Botswana.

Applicant needs to be a mature, highly skilled and motivated individual with 10 years experience in mechanics and engineering

with exceptional leadership qualities and required experience to fill this position.

  • Planning, leading, organizing and supervising the day to day running of the mechanical and engineering workshop.
  • Lead a team of mechanics and workshop staff within the Game Reserve, train and manage satellite mechanics.
  • Controlling the quality of vehicle and machinery repair and maintenance.
  • Ensure that all vehicle / machinery warranties are properly followed up, monitored and documented.
  • Performing trouble shooting and diagnostics procedures on vehicles and equipment and decide on the correct method of repair.
  • Plan and organize preventative maintenance systems.
  • Source, implement and manage satellite tracking devises as part of ongoing preventive maintenance.
  • Hands on supervision of all workshop activities especially technical issues
  • Forecast and order spare parts for specific jobs or stock replenishment
  • Management of the spare parts store, monthly stock taking, ordering and reports
  • Supervise and follow up on actual process of each individual repair or maintenance job
  • Provide on the job training as well as coaching and mentoring to mechanics, interns and workshop staff
  • Evaluate training requirements and discuss / agree training needs with management
  • Have an in depth knowledge of all sizes of generators with responsibility for the maintenance and conditioning
  • Conduct final check / test drive all vehicles prior to release
  • Interviewing and conduct hands on testing of technical applicants
  • Sign off on all job cards
  • Support and fully comply with company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Test and approve operators / drivers for all vehicles and machinery
  • Conduct any other tasks assigned to him by his line manager
  • Leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and empower others to realize their full potential
  • Excellent grasp of the English language, verbal and written
  • Hands on experience in both mechanical and engineering fields
  • Computer literate (Microsoft word, excel) includes up to date knowledge of diagnostic computerized equipment
  • Responsive and able to adapt and work under immense pressure and in times of crises for long hours

  • Radio installation, repairs and communication
  • Boat repairs and maintenance to hulls and motors including inboard, outboard and fan driven
  • Road maintenance and construction, repairs to bridges, culverts & airfield runways
  • Workshop business management including computerized systems and programs for accounts and budgeting, requesting /receiving / authorizing quotes, invoicing, ordering, stock control, quality control, staff accounts, leave rosters, online banking and accountability for expenses
  • Knowledge and ability to use computerized automotive vehicle parts programs for ordering vehicular parts online

Salary R 41.400 with Housing and company benefits, full Medical Aid, Bonus Performance – end of the year.

Salary Workshop Engineer R 41.400.00 per month

Admin Manager R 27.600.00 per month

with Housing and company benefits – Full Medical Aid

Security Manager.

World renowned Big 5 Game Reserve – 4393 ha – adjacent to the Kruger National Park – Mpumalanga.

The Game Reserve requires a Security Manager to assume responsibility for delivering all internal security operations required by the Game Reserve’s Security Plan,

including access management, fence-line and perimeter management, and coordination of the outsourced anti-poaching operations.

Wildlife crime is a significant threat to the success of all protected areas in the region, and this position is central to addressing this challenge.

Requirements :

Hold a minimum of 4 years successful working experience in a similar role.

Good understanding of labour and security law, regulations and process (additional legal support will be provided).

Proven experience in a Big 5 Game Reserve with excellent bush skills.

Understanding that the nature of the employment is of a physically strenuous nature, and that a high standard of physical fitness is an inherent requirement of the job.

Good knowledge and proficiency in handling of handgun, rifle and carbine systems.

Ability to lead by example with good managerial skills. • In possession of a valid police clearance and driver’s license.

Capable of interacting positively and effectively with other APU services and leaders in the field to constantly improve operations.

Capable of coordinating with strategic partners (e.g. Intelligence) and neighbours to deliver on common security needs and requirements.

Any relevant qualification in security and/or conservation will be advantageous including PSIRA A or B rating.

Competency or experience with business management is desirable.

Conservation Manager.

World renowned Big 5 Game Reserve – 4393 ha – adjacent to the Kruger National Park – Mpumalanga.

The Game Reserve requires a Conservation Manager to assume responsibility for delivering on the conservation, biodiversity monitoring, and environmental compliance components of the Game Reserve’s Management Plan. Working closely with the safari businesses operating in the Game Reserve, and the Board, the position requires someone with conservation management qualifications and proven experience in management of similar protected areas.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Strong and applicable tertiary qualification in environmental sciences, ecology or conservation management.

• A minimum of 8 years successful working experience in a similar roles.

• Excellent understanding of protected area and environmental legislation, and protected areas management plans.

• Competent with GIS

• Proven experience in a Big 5 Game Reserve with excellent applicable knowledge of ecological processes.

• Proficient in handling of firearms.

• Ability to lead by example with excellent inter-personal skills.

• In possession of valid police clearance and driver’s license.

• Capable of coordinating with strategic partners (e.g. KNP, MTPA) and neighbours to deliver on common management needs and requirements.
